Insalata Caprese

Tomatoes Mozzarella Recipe

Caprese Salad is a simple Italian salad made with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, seasoned with salt and olive oil. I love this salad. It’s so simple and truly a great combination of flavours, textures and freshness. Every time I make it, I feel like I’m eating summer in a bowl.

Random Tidbit of Information: It is made to resemble the colors of the Italian flag: red, white, and green.

Caprese Salad Colours

There are many variations to this recipe. Variations include the addition of balsamic vinegar or re-inventing the classic caprese in its’ presentation or even it’s cooking method.

Today we are keeping the recipe pretty classic. With the core ingredients: Tomatoes, Fresh Mozzarella, Basil, Olive Oil, and Salt. This is a simple and easy dish to put together, I normally do not follow a recipe, I usually just toss all the ingredients together and go with that, but for the readers, here is how it goes below.

So what you will need is:

400 Grams of Ripe Tomatoes, halved (I used Grape Tomatoes)
300 Grams of Fresh Mozzarella Balls, torn into chunks
Sea Salt
Bunch of Fresh Basil, Leaves only
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Freshly Ground Black Pepper (I used Pink Peppercorns)

1. In a bowl, add the mozzarella balls and tomatoes.
2. Season with salt, pepper, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.
3. Tear the basil leaves up and sprinkle over the salad before serving.
